The Shanghai Railway Museum is located at the intersection of Tianmu East Road and Kangle Road. Its exhibition hall building and outdoor appearance are modeled after the Shanghai Station of the Shanghai-Nanjing Railway, which was built in 1909 and features a classic English architectural style, and is constructed on its original site. Here, one can see actual locomotives, various train parts, equipment, and models, and even operate the control panel to experience being a high-speed train driver.

Upon entering the museum area, the first thing one sees are two vintage locomotives and a classic green carriage, with a train station platform nearby, making it an excellent spot for photos and memories. The exhibition hall is constructed in a retro style, with its structure and decoration exuding a sense of history, though the hall is not large, consisting of only one floor. Inside, there is an abundance of textual and pictorial materials, as well as railway publications and badges from various eras, showcasing the history of Shanghai and the East China Railway over more than a century.

Visitors can see many equipment and devices related to trains and rails, as well as directional signs used on various train carriages and everyday items from different eras. However, what might attract children the most are the various simulated miniature locomotive models. Additionally, the museum features a simulated high-speed train cockpit, where you can try your hand at being a driver, steering the train towards the horizon.

Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 11:00 and 13:30 to 16:30; closed on Mondays. Service facilities include restrooms.
