The Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA Shanghai) is located in the heart of the city within People’s Park, neighboring the Shanghai Municipal Government, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Shanghai Art Museum, and Shanghai Museum. The museum spans two floors and, despite its modest size, regularly hosts numerous exhibitions, including not only pure art exhibitions but also brand and design exhibitions that are close to the public.
Originally a greenhouse within People’s Park, the museum retained its external glass walls during construction, while the interior underwent extensive reconstruction. It maintains its superior natural lighting and the outstanding views of the park, while also meeting the professional requirements of a museum after the addition of various facilities. The total area of the museum is 4000 square meters; the exhibition area occupies both the first and second-floor galleries, totaling nearly 1800 square meters. All exhibition areas are equipped with professional temperature and humidity control facilities. Funded by the Gong Mingguang Foundation, the museum is dedicated to promoting contemporary art from China and around the world. Managed by a team with rich curatorial and administrative experience, the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art aims to cultivate appreciation for contemporary art and design from China and the world, and to continuously advance cultural exchanges between Shanghai and the global community.
