The Songhu Anti-Japanese War Memorial is located in Linjiang Park, Baoshan District, Shanghai. Here, one can learn about the two significant battles that took place in Shanghai during the Anti-Japanese War, the ‘January 28th’ and ‘August 13th’ Songhu battles, as well as the 14-year history of the Shanghai people’s resistance. The memorial site, adjacent to the Yangtze River and close to the mouth of Wusong, was once the old county town of Baoshan and the main battlefield for both Songhu battles. The memorial mainly consists of an exhibition area and a memorial tower.

The exhibition area is divided into three floors. The first and second floors primarily present the history of the Songhu battles through text and images, supplemented by artifacts and virtual scenes, showcasing stories such as ‘The Volunteer Army’s Retreat from the Sea Wall’, ‘Shop Clerks’ Sacrifice for Justice’, ‘The White-Clad Warriors of Luodian Town’, and ‘The Young Hero Fangta’s Martyrdom’. On the first floor, there is also an exhibition of anti-war art by painter Zhang Mingcao and a film screening room. The auxiliary exhibition on the second floor displays the atrocities committed by the Japanese army in Shanghai.

On the third floor, one can view a large photo exhibition of the anti-Japanese armed struggle of the people in the suburban counties of Shanghai. Above the fourth floor of the exhibition hall is the memorial tower. Taking the elevator to the eleventh floor leads to the observation room, where one can overlook the Yangtze River estuary and look down upon the Baoshan urban area. Adjacent to the memorial is the Songhu Battleground Monument, the ‘Songhu Anti-Japanese War Civilian and Military’ large-scale sculpture, and the ‘Songhu Spirit’ long scroll stone carving theme wall, among other artistic works.
