Shenlong Gorge Scenic Area is located to the west of Jinshan Mountain, and it is one of the closest and most pristine ecological canyons to the main urban area of Chongqing. The entire canyon stretches approximately 4.2 kilometers long, with an average width of about 50 meters at the bottom, widening to 90 meters and narrowing to just 10 meters, forming a typical ‘Y’ shaped deep-cut canyon. The canyon is rich with deep forests and bamboo, and features flowing water and waterfalls, making it a natural oxygen bar.
During the hot summer months, while the average temperature in Nanchuan City is around 26 degrees Celsius and in Chongqing City it’s 28, Shenlong Gorge remains at a cool 13.7 degrees Celsius, making it an ideal summer retreat for tourists. The scenic area also offers a 23-degree water temperature insurance; a thermometer is installed within the area, and if the water temperature exceeds 23 degrees, visitors are entitled to a 50 yuan compensation from the scenic area.From the entrance of Shenlong Gorge to the Liangyi Square, there is a distance that can be covered by taking the scenic area’s sightseeing bus (15 yuan per person), with the electric vehicle station located near the Shenfeng Cave. Alternatively, one can choose to walk, enjoying the scenery along the way, which takes approximately one hour to reach Liangyi Square. Before Liangyi Square, there is only one path, which later splits into two diverging paths. Notable attractions within the scenic area, such as the Feilong Waterfall, Shenlong Cave, and Liyin Lake, are all located near these two scenic paths. These two paths form a loop; the left path is steeper, while the right path is more gentle, allowing visitors to choose based on their physical strength.
Near Liyin Lake, there are food stalls and accommodations, providing a place to rest if one feels tired. Additionally, fishing and camping nearby are also enjoyable experiences. The temperature inside Shenlong Cave is lower, so it is recommended to bring a long-sleeved shirt or scarf when visiting in the summer. After completing the loop and returning to Liangyi Square, the tour of the entire Shenlong Gorge Scenic Area is essentially concluded.
