Qixinggang is located outside Tongyuanmen in the main urban area of Chongqing. It is a small hillock. However, on the map of Chongqing urban area in the late Qing Dynasty, Qixinggang was still marked as ‘Seven Star Cylinders’. In old Chongqing, people were most afraid of fires. Therefore, ponds, cylinders and other facilities were used everywhere to store water in case of fire for firefighting. According to legend, there were seven large stone cylinders on Qixinggang filled with water for firefighting.

Therefore, the hillock was also called Seven Star Cylinders. Seven Star Cylinders seemed a bit vulgar. During the Anti-Japanese War, the ‘cylinder’ was renamed as ‘hillock’. Similar changes also include Jiulongpo (changing ‘shop’ to ‘slope’) and Shima River (changing ‘living’ to ‘river’). Qixinggang is located on the central trunk road. In the 1930s, the central trunk road was named Zhongshan Road.

Qixinggang is located on Zhongshan Road 1 and has become an important business district. However, due to its location on a ridge and lack of room for development around, people can only stand on Tongyuanmen and look at the surging traffic, which is really thought-provoking. The opening hours are subject to the actual opening status on the day.
