In Slender West Lake, there is a fishing platform known as Diao Yu Tai, which is said to be the place where silk and bamboo musical instruments were once played. However, it became a place for leisurely fishing due to Emperor Qianlong’s impromptu fishing here. Nevertheless, the charm of Diao Yu Tai extends far beyond this.
Diao Yu Tai at Slender West Lake is considered an exemplary model of Chinese pavilion architecture, embodying the art of framed landscapes. Surrounded by water on three sides and connected to Xiaojinshan by a long causeway, standing at a 60-degree angle inside the pavilion, you can see the Five Pavilion Bridge lying across the waves through the circular door on the north side, the majestic and elegant White Pagoda through the southern door, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Fuzhuang on the east side. Diao Yu Tai ‘frames’ the essence of Slender West Lake, perfectly corresponding to its name ‘Sanxing Gongzhao’, and is constructed with great ingenuity.
