Lingdu Temple is said to have a history of 1,500 years. According to the records of Bao’an County Annals, during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the eminent monk Master Beidou once resided here. Previous sages believed that this place has magnificent dragon veins, towering layers of green mountains, mountain flowers and strange stones, mineral spring water and towering trees. It deeply presents natural scenery and can be regarded as a pure land for Buddhism. At the same time, it can also become a tourist attraction. Both are suitable. Therefore, Lingdu Temple has been worshipped piously by local villagers and believers for generations. They seek blessings under its protection and pray for good weather, national prosperity and people’s peace. In the Sui Dynasty, it was once renamed as [Lingdu Dojo]. In the Tang Dynasty, it was greatly renovated and renamed as [Dayun Temple]. Later, in 1119 during the reign of Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty, it was renamed as [Baiyun Taoist Temple]. In the Ming Dynasty, it was renamed back to Lingdu Temple. So, during the long past years, Lingdu Temple has become a temple and Taoist temple that combines Buddhism and Taoism. Currently, in addition to enshrining the Buddhist Triratna, the Bodhisattva of Great Compassion and Mercy Guanyin, and the Weituo Hall, there are also Taoist halls and altars such as Immortal Master Lu Zu, Doumu, Wang Lingguan, and Guan Shengdijun, so as to provide villagers of Xiacun Township and all believers from all directions to enter the temple and worship piously and seek blessings from the gods.
