Master Musician Ted Lo Leads Festival Kickoff
Master musician Ted Lo collaborates with up-and-coming talents Nelson Fung and Dean Li to kick off the festival with a dazzling ensemble.
Ted Lo’s Musical Journey
Hong Kong jazz patriarch Ted Lo has been relentlessly pursuing innovation in music for over four decades. He actively collaborates with different musicians and challenges various forms, always surprising fans with each performance.
For the sixth consecutive time, he is meeting everyone at the Free Jazz Festival. Returning to his beloved trio performance, he collaborates with two local emerging musicians.
Ted Lo is the first Hong Kong musician to graduate from the Berklee College of Music. He has collaborated with renowned musicians such as Herbie Mann, Astrud Gilberto, and Ron Carter.
Since returning to Hong Kong nearly thirty years ago, he has been working closely with musicians from different genres.
Collaborators: Nelson Fung and Dean Li
This time, he has invited double bassist Nelson Fung and drummer Dean Li. Both are founding members of the local jazz promotion group ‘Three and a Half Flips’ and are considered the cream of the new generation of Hong Kong’s jazz scene.

The trio will play pieces specially composed by Ted Lo for this festival. They will interact closely to create sparks across generations.
