The Gengliao Ancient Trail is one of the five well-preserved and still-in-use ancient paths that once connected Nangang to Shenkeng and Shihding. This trail is not only a convenient route to the mountain pig caves and Tukue Mountain but also a century-old path to explore the remnants of ancient dwellings. Today, the trail has been paved with granite steps, yet the narrow and rugged conditions still reflect the ancient and raw atmosphere.
Some sections of the path remain unpaved, adorned with small stones and daily blooming white flowers, which further enhance the rustic and historical charm of the trail. The latter part of the Gengliao Ancient Trail connects with the Laoliao Ancient Trail, which was once a bustling tea district with numerous tea shops. The trail was also an area for transporting and producing camphor in the past.Gengliao Ancient Trail – A Hiking Path Close to Nature
