The 228 Peace Memorial Park was formerly known as the ‘New Park’ built in 1908. In 1996, to commemorate the 228 Incident that broke out in 1947, the park was renamed the 228 Peace Memorial Park. Entering from the main entrance of the park, you can see a hanging ‘Peace Bell’, which embodies the people’s longing for a peaceful life.
Walking along the forest path, on the left side, there is a semi-domed open-air music stage, which was once the center of performances here.
The open-air music stage is facing the 228 Peace Monument. This is a building with a unique shape. Three huge cubes of rock texture support a pointed arch. Entering the internal space of the monument along the winding path and bridge, you can see a large urn symbolizing the bones of the victims. In front of it is a circular stone slab with an inscription commemorating the 228 Incident.
