The Xianglin Divine Tree is located next to the Ciyun Temple and Xianglin National Elementary School, near the Alishan No.1 Giant Tree Trail. It is a red cypress tree with a circumference of 12.3 meters, a height of 45 meters, and an estimated age of 2300 years. The old name, Guangwu, is derived from the calculation that the tree would have germinated around the time of Emperor Guangwu during the Eastern Han Dynasty. Alishan, situated at an altitude of over 2000 meters, is located in the local fog forest belt, with clouds and mist shrouding it all year round. The annual rainfall exceeds 4000 millimeters, providing abundant moisture that nourishes the millennia-old giant trees of Alishan. Alishan can be considered the homeland of cypress trees. To continue the resilient vitality of the ‘Alishan Divine Tree’, in 2006, the Forestry Bureau and the Tourism Bureau co-hosted the ‘Alishan Second Generation Divine Tree – Who Will Compete for the Title’ voting event. The red cypress giant tree with the highest votes is estimated to be 2300 years old, majestic and upright, and is considered the top-tier giant tree in the Alishan Xianglin Cypress Forest. Its selection is well-deserved. This divine tree is located next to Ciyun Temple in Xianglin Village, Alishan Township, Chiayi County. Starting from the new year of 2007, it was officially renamed ‘Alishan Xianglin Divine Tree’, carrying historical significance. The opening hours are all year round, open all day.
