Sanxiantai Recreation Area is a well-known tourist attraction in Taitung County. It is composed of an offshore island, coral reef coast and gravel coast. According to legend, among the ‘Eight Immortals’, Tieguai Li, Lu Dongbin and He Xiangu once rested on the island and left three pairs of footprints on the mountain, hence the name Sanxiantai. In order to facilitate tourists to land on the island, an eight-arch cross-sea pedestrian walkway bridge was built in 1987. Due to its beautiful shape, it has become a local landmark. The eight-arch cross-sea walkway bridge of Sanxiantai is presented in a wave shape, like a long dragon lying on waves, with a magnificent momentum. The topographic landscape and ecological resources on the island are extremely unique and rare, scattered with marine erosion gullies, pot holes, marine erosion columns, marine erosion concave walls and other marine erosion landscapes.
