Xuwen Coral Reef Nature Reserve is located along the coast of Jiaowei Township and Xilian Town in Xuwen County, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, covering an area of approximately 109 square kilometers. In 1999, the Xuwen County People’s Government established the nature reserve to enhance the protection of coral reef natural resources in the area; in 2002, it was approved by the Zhanjiang Municipal People’s Government and upgraded to a municipal-level nature reserve. Scientific research surveys have identified 2 orders, 17 families, and 49 species of corals in the Xuwen Coral Reef Nature Reserve, with 2 more species awaiting identification, including rare varieties, some of which are discovered for the first time in China. The reserve is open all year round, with full-day access.
