Danzhou City boasts a long history and numerous historical sites. Under the influence of a rich cultural atmosphere, the local people have a passion for poetry and couplets, earning Danzhou the reputation of ‘Poetry Hometown and Song Sea.’ Danzhou is honored with titles such as ‘National Poetry City,’ ‘Chinese Couplet City,’ ‘Chinese Folk Art and Culture City,’ and ‘Chinese Calligraphy City.’ With a broad mass base, profound historical and cultural heritage, and diverse natural ecosystems, these elements provide a vast space for artistic creation.

Danzhou Art Museum is an antique-style building located next to Danyang Forest Park on Zhongxing Avenue in Nadou Town, Danzhou City. It enjoys a good ecological environment and beautiful scenery, surrounded by abundant tourism resources. It is adjacent to the Danzhou Experimental Field of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, with Hainan University Danzhou Campus and Hainan Film Academy nearby, offering a rich cultural foundation. It is approximately 2km from the main urban area of Nadou Town (where the municipal government is located), and a 30-minute drive from Yangpu Economic Development Zone and Haihua Island Tourism Complex, with convenient transportation and well-equipped municipal facilities. The project officially started construction on August 8, 2016, and the main structure was topped out on April 28, 2017. It covers an area of 14,795 square meters with a total construction area of about 7,296.83 square meters, consisting of one underground floor and four above-ground floors.

The museum features 9 permanent exhibition halls, 1 city tourist center, 1 main reception room, 3 painting rooms, 1 multimedia exhibition hall, 3 training rooms, 10 offices, and 3 restaurants. The project was fully completed in early August 2024 and is currently one of the larger art museums in Hainan Province. The museum, after completion, not only serves as an institution for the preservation, collection, exhibition, and research of art works in Danzhou and Western Hainan but also as an innovative base for cultural exchange and educational dissemination in Danzhou City.

The museum is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00-17:00; closed all day on Mondays; and open 09:00-17:00 on New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day.
