MeiJiaWu Village is nestled in the heart of the West Lake Scenic Area, along the Meiling Road, just a 10-kilometer drive from Hangzhou city. It is one of the primary producing regions for Longjing tea. Surrounded by lush green mountains, the village offers a panoramic view of thriving tea plants, with the refreshing aroma of tea leaves invigorating the senses. Strolling here and breathing in the crisp air is an exhilarating experience.
Nowadays, almost every household in MeiJiaWu Village makes a living from tea cultivation and sales. Tea farms and tea societies are a common sight, along with numerous agritourism spots. Its proximity to Hangzhou city makes it a popular weekend destination for tourists who come to savor authentic Longjing tea and enjoy local farmhouse cuisine. For those interested, playing a few rounds of mahjong is also a delightful activity.

If you visit MeiJiaWu during the tea-picking season in March and April, you will witness the busy figures of tea farmers in the fields. This is the time for harvesting and processing new tea, and enthusiasts can even experience the process of tea picking and making firsthand. Should you visit in April or May, you can taste the newly released Longjing tea, especially around the Qingming holiday, when many tourists from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai flock here.

Avoiding the holiday crowds and enjoying the tranquility is the wise choice. Besides the premium Longjing tea, MeiJiaWu also boasts cultural attractions like the LiGengTang. LiGengTang is an ancient Ming-Qing dynasty residence in the village, inscribed with the calligraphy of ‘LiGengTang’ by Zhang Zhao, the scribe of ‘Yueyang Tower Inscription’. Today, it serves as a quaint teahouse and restaurant.

For those who wish to hike, a path from the southeastern end of MeiJiaWu leads to ‘Yunqi Bamboo Path’, the filming location of ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’, where one can admire the beauty of West Lake.

The village is open all year round and accessible at all times.

Essential Tips:

1. Try to avoid traveling during weekends and holidays when MeiJiaWu is crowded with tourists, mostly driving their own cars, making parking difficult.

2. A 10-minute drive from MeiJiaWu along the Meiling Road to the north leads to the famous Lingyin Temple, while a 5-minute drive to the south takes you to the serene Yunqi Bamboo Path, both renowned attractions.
