Taozhu Ancient City is renowned for the great defeat of Japanese pirates by the hero Qi Jiguang. It was a defense post established along the southeast coast of Zhejiang to resist the Japanese pirates. Initially constructed in the 20th year of the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty, it began as an earthen city. In the seventh year of the Zhengtong era (1442), it started to be rebuilt and was completed in one year, in the eighth year of the Zhengtong era (1443). Taozhu Ancient City has maintained its original flavor and has a history of over 600 years.
