Minghe Ancient Town is located in the southeast of Cixi, Ningbo, Zhejiang, 50 kilometers east of Ningbo, and adjacent to the National Highway 329. It was built during the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty and has a history of over 1200 years. It is one of the ancient towns in the Sanbei area and the only remaining ancient town in Cixi City with a typical Jiangnan ancient town style, earning the reputation of ‘Minghe scenery rivals Gusu’.


Minghe Ancient Town is built along Baiyang Lake and is close to the Wulaishan Scenic Area, making it a true ancient town with mountains and waters. The river in the ancient town flows from west to east, with seven ancient bridges from the Ming Dynasty spanning the river. Along the river, there are Ming and Qing dynasty residences with Jiangnan water town characteristics, most of which are luxurious houses built after the Ye family of Minghe made their fortune in the national medicine business.


The Yanchang Walking Horse Building is a very distinctive ancient building among the quadrangle groups in southern China. The Shen Family’s Old House still preserves the good news of their descendants’ success in the imperial examinations, and the lingering scholarly atmosphere on the report is a testament to the accumulation and continuation of the ancient town’s culture.


Zhedong’s first ancient temple with a history of over 1700 years – Wulao Temple, and Jinshan Temple, founded during the Liang Datong period, are both close to this town. With the morning bells and evening drums of the temples and the melodious chanting, the ancient town seems to have added a touch of extraordinary and mysterious color.
