The Qingpu Library was first established in December 1959. In July 2007, it was relocated to Puyang Pavilion by Xiayang Lake. On August 28, the new library officially opened. This ‘library on the water’ has become a relatively distinctive and elegant library in the Shanghai area, providing readers with an additional spiritual enjoyment while experiencing the pleasure of reading. Wandering by Xiayang Lake in the urban area of Qingpu, looking from a distance, the unique building of the library on the water, designed by the renowned designer Ma Qingyun, stands quietly in the middle of the water, echoing the museum on the opposite bank.

Both have become landmark buildings of Qingpu New City. This modern-style library has a construction area of 8,000 square meters and is formed by the interlacing of two wavy buildings. Its appearance is like two giant waves gracefully extending towards the center of the lake from the east and west. The ‘corridor in the center of the lake’ extending from the middle of the main building of the library closely connects this oversized building with the lake shore.

The most distinctive design of the library on the water is the approximately 4,000-square-meter rooftop park. The green plants covering the wavy roof relax people’s body and mind. There are four staircases on each side of the east and west. After reading, going up to the rooftop park along the stairs and enjoying the lake scenery is a benefit of this library. Opening hours: Open from 13:00 to 20:30 on Mondays throughout the year; open from 09:00 to 20:30 from Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year.

The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.
