Tongli Town boasts an exceptional water town landscape and has preserved a large number of intact Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings. Over the past decade, it has not only attracted millions of domestic and international tourists but also a significant number of film and television production crews. The Film and Television Production Base refers to a stone tablet near the Tuisiyuan Garden and the stone carvings laid on the ground, which record the films and TV dramas shot in Tongli. In 1983, the crew of ‘The Bao Family’ entered Tongli, and after the filming was completed, it premiered in Suzhou, leaving a deep impression on many viewers with its quaint town, tranquil deep houses, and long stone paths. Since then, Tongli Town has been closely linked with the film industry. In 1986, ‘Story of the Canal’ filmed an entire episode in Tongli, even using boats and helicopters during the shooting. ‘Story of the Canal’ spread the fame of Tongli Town nationwide, attracting numerous film and television production crews. The garden where Daiyu buried flowers in ‘Dream of the Red Chamber’, the small building where Lin Chong drank in ‘Lin Chong’, the stern Gaofu in ‘Family Spring and Autumn’, and Dong’s residence in ‘Dong Xiaowan’ can all be found in Tongli. In 1990, the overseas crew of ‘The Playful Qianlong’ came to Suzhou and found it an ideal place for filming, immediately deciding to change their plan of setting up scenes for filming and moved all their equipment to Tongli, shooting for a full hundred days. It is open all year round, 24 hours a day, with specific business status subject to the daily opening conditions.
