Sun Island is located near Zhujiajiao Ancient Town around Shanghai. Self-driving/bus route: We drove from downtown Shanghai to Sun Island via the Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway, which took about an hour and was very convenient. If you don’t drive, you can take Line 17 from Zhujiajiao Town, and then take a taxi or transfer to a bus after getting off.

Favorite Family Room: The check-in lobby and villa area of the Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel are separate. After completing the procedures, you can drive or take a shuttle bus to the room. The villa area is large, lush with vegetation, adjacent to the Mao River, and walking through it gives a feeling of winding paths leading to seclusion. We chose the club family room next to the river. Before checking in, it was introduced that this room type has 71 square meters, and upon arrival, we found it to be very spacious. The soft decorations in the room are all cartoon themes that children like. You can see a large chessboard carpet at first glance, next to which there are several boxes of Lego toys, children’s tents, and cartoon dolls. It’s no wonder that it’s a Shanghai family hotel with zero bad reviews. The rooms in the Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel are equipped with a capsule coffee machine and free soft drinks. In addition, a bottle of red wine produced by the hotel’s brother brand is given, which feels very cost-effective. The room is designed with a parent-child bed, a double bed + a baby bed, the bathroom has an independent bathtub, children’s special toothbrush and toothpaste, and a child’s toilet seat cover, which is very considerate. After putting our luggage away, we called a shuttle bus to the Mermaid Wharf because our daughter saw the Mermaid Train and insisted on taking it, and the Pet Paradise is also at the Mermaid Wharf.

Pet Paradise: Before arriving at the place, we saw various parents with dogs, and our dog was very excited. The Pet Paradise is divided into indoor and outdoor areas. Indoors, dogs can have afternoon tea, play on climbing frames, and play with ocean balls. Outdoors, there is a large open-air lawn, and dogs can also swim, which is a professional pet shallow and deep swimming pool. It is worth mentioning that the Shanghai Sun Island Resort Hotel offers pet boarding and pet training services, equipped with professional dog trainers who can help dogs correct bad habits and learn some skills. Our dog was boarded here for an afternoon, and the little guy was timid and kept barking. The staff were very patient and even gave him biscuits and yogurt, which was very nice.

After leaving the Pet Paradise, we took our daughter to ride the Mermaid Train. The train is composed of blue and white colors, and the sides of the car are painted with colorful paintings, full of childlike innocence. The journey stops at three stations: the hotel lobby, Mermaid Dock, and Little Green Space. With a ticket, you can ride all day, enjoying the scenic views of the island with a relaxed mood.

Activities/Entertainment: Before arriving, we had heard that the Equestrian Club of Shanghai Sun Island was quite famous. After breakfast on the second day, I took my daughter to ride horses. At first, she was a bit scared of the big horses, but then the staff brought a pony for her to ride, and she fell in love with it instantly. Protective gear is worn before mounting, and the staff hold the horse the whole time, ensuring safety and a joyful experience for the child. Observing the equestrian field (Shanghai Sun Island Equestrian Club), many children were learning professional horsemanship, looking very handsome. There are many places suitable for children to play on the island. We chose to go to the Artisan Pavilion for crafts first, where there are instructors and tool kits, and all you need to do is follow along. We selected a soft pottery and a leather bag, and successfully completed both in the end! The weather in May is already quite hot,A family of three rented a water bike and enjoyed a leisurely and melodious experience.

Culinary Delights:
On the first day, the family had a small hot pot for dinner. It was one pot per person. The set meal included vegetables, meat, fish, and shellfish. The pork bone soup base was thickly cooked. It is said that the vegetables are organically grown on the island and are very crisp and refreshing. With meat and seafood, it is more than enough to eat. If not full enough, one can add a staple food unlimitedly.
The next day’s breakfast was in the hotel’s buffet restaurant. It must be praised as very high quality within the hotel. Both Chinese and Western styles are available. The open noodle dishes are particularly delicious. The self-made soy milk and yogurt are unique. For Western-style food, there are also salads and bread. The family was very satisfied.
Lunch was at the Waterfall Western Restaurant on the first floor of the lobby. As they ate too much in the morning, they were not very hungry. They ordered a special children’s meal for their daughter, with children’s special utensils. The freshly made hamburgers and fruit juice were very popular. The husband and wife tried the new Dirty Milk, a dessert made with fresh milk and fruit. It was very refreshing with a cool taste in early summer.

Shanghai Sun Island Resort is very suitable for the whole family to spend a weekend.
