Ai Mountain, situated at the border of Jiangsu and Shandong provinces, is one of the three famous mountains in northern Jiangsu, alongside Hua Guo Mountain and Yun Long Mountain, with an elevation of 197.2 meters. This mountain, known as the ‘national town mountain’ of the ancient Xu state, once cast a ‘Ai’ character tripod; it is also said that every sixty years, divine Ai grass grows, and the local people call it Ai Mountain to pray for blessings and good fortune. Because of its nine connected peaks and winding shape, resembling nine dragons lying in wait, it is also known as Jiu Long Mountain.
Ai Mountain boasts enchanting scenery, combining extraordinary mountains, beautiful waters, and a Zen temple. The mountain features numerous attractions, including the remains of the Ai King City from the Spring and Autumn period, Xu Shu’s cave from the Three Kingdoms period where he lived in seclusion, the ancient battlefield Heifengkou from the Tang and Song dynasties, the Granny Temple from the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Shaolin Temple’s branch – Tiefo Temple and Huayan Temple, and the impressive large-scale musical dynamic fountain – Jiu Long Buddha Pagoda.
