Before the ancient Yellow River changed its course and flowed northward to Shandong in 1855, it had flowed on this ancient land of Xuzhou for more than 600 years. So far, it has a history of more than 2,000 years. The urban section is 20.7 kilometers in length and is a main flood control and drainage channel in the urban area. Today, the Yellow River still presents an unceasing flowing posture, adding a bit of ruggedness and boldness as well as a bit of charm and beauty to the ancient city. It also adds endless charm to this city that is constantly rising and becoming more beautiful. This ancient Yellow River, which can be called the mother river of the people of Xuzhou, is being decorated. With the comprehensive agricultural development of the ancient course of the Yellow River in the whole province kicking off, the Xuzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government have taken the comprehensive improvement of the urban section of the ancient Yellow River as a key project of the city this year. In accordance with the comprehensive governance concept of ‘water safety, water environment, water landscape, water culture, and water economy’, with flood control and drainage as the main task, the river surface becomes wider, the riverbed becomes deeper, both banks become greener, and the river water becomes clearer. Through continuous governance, the ancient Yellow River will regain its vitality and continue to nourish the people on both banks of Gupeng affectionately.
