Apart from the purple flowers, the angel’s trumpet in Wish Park is also in full bloom. This herb, affectionately known as angel flower, is smaller than the purple flowers. Although it is a fragrant plant, its scent is not very strong. One needs to bend down and get close to detect its fragrance. Moreover, compared to its relatives like lavender and sage, its aroma is truly inferior. Fortunately, its appearance is quite appealing, densely planted in large clusters with white, purple, red, and pink… It instantly gives one the feeling of a warm spring breeze.
The angel’s trumpet in Wish Park is mixed planting, with a significant proportion of pink and red. The angel’s trumpet I have seen before was mostly purple, occasionally complemented by the fresh white color. However, the colors here are much richer, with the red actually being a darker shade of pink, but the difference with the light pink is still very distinct. Therefore, when planted together, the colors appear exceptionally vibrant.
Angel’s trumpet is native to Mexico and the West Indies, and it prefers warmer climates due to its location in hot areas, growing better under high temperature and humid conditions. It does not wilt easily under strong light and does not require special care in the summer, making it popular worldwide today.I can’t help but recall a poem: “New angel’s trumpet on the branch, beautiful oriole sings on the ridge. Pine trees drip emerald jade, wild ravines wash silver jade.” This five-character quatrain consists of two antithetical sentences, and I have always liked well-structured verses.
However, the angel’s trumpet in this poem does not refer to the angel’s trumpet flower, but to the angel’s trumpet bird. Yet, the angel’s trumpet flower does resemble a little sparrow, one that waits in the nest from morning till night, eagerly anticipating the mother bird’s return, its mouth wide open, waiting to be fed. It seems to be very hungry, so it stretches its small head upward with effort; the petals spread out as if it is hastily opening its mouth, impatiently waiting for the mother bird to feed it.
However, the scale of these little sparrows is really too large. Each angel’s trumpet plant can produce dozens of flowers, and I imagine the mother bird would be frightened and flee upon seeing this sight. To feed so many little birds, the mother bird admits her limitations and can only resolutely give up.
The angel’s trumpet is indeed a flower with a large quantity of blooms, so each blooming season, the flowers bloom like a sea, and the scale is indeed spectacular, even though they are quite small.
The flowering period of Angel’s Trumpet is unusually long, blooming from spring through summer and into autumn, still flourishing. If the climatic conditions are favorable, in warmer regions, it can also bloom in winter.Angel’s Trumpet, with its quite attractive flower shape, stands out within the Solanaceae family. The bilabiate corolla is composed of five petals, divided into two distinct parts: two upper petals and three lower petals. The central petal of the lower lip features a white pattern, which, while not very noticeable on white flowers, serves to brighten dark pink and deep purple flowers.
Beyond being well-known as ‘Angel Flower,’ it is also referred to by the beautiful names ‘Water Nymph,’ ‘Little Angel,’ and ‘Blue Angel.’ These names all highlight the plant’s loveliness. Indeed, the small petals of Angel’s Trumpet resemble smiling faces, akin to little angels themselves. The language of Angel’s Trumpet flowers is ‘innocence and happiness,’ embodying the very essence of a little angel’s blessing.
