As the autumn breeze brings coolness and golden leaves cover the branches, it is the most pleasant season of the year in Shanghai. In this gentle autumn, I embarked on a journey to the LOHAS Camp (Orange Orchard Store), where an autumn picking activity about nature, delicious food, and joy awaits me to explore.
Changxing Island, this secluded paradise away from the hustle and bustle, has become our destination for this trip with its unique autumn-limited picking experience. The first sight of the orange orchard is a golden spectacle everywhere. Driving to Changxing Island, a faint fruity fragrance fills the air—that is the unique smell of autumn.
The LOHAS Camp (Orange Orchard Store) is nestled in a lush orange forest. From a distance, the golden oranges appear like scattered stars, dotting among the green leaves, extremely alluring. Stepping into the orange orchard feels like walking into a vivid autumn painting. Every step is accompanied by the rustling sound of fallen leaves, and the mood becomes exceptionally comfortable.
Orange picking is a joy within itself. Under the guidance of the staff, we picked up baskets and started the long-awaited orange picking journey. Picking those oranges with bright colors and plump fruits, with a gentle pick, we can feel the heavy weight of the fruit—that is the most sincere gift from nature. The children are even more excited. Accompanied by their parents, they pick and taste at the same time, with satisfied and happy smiles on their faces. In a short while, everyone’s basket is filled with heavy oranges. That is our closest contact with autumn.
Stove-boiling tea, peaceful years. After picking, we sat around the specially arranged stove in the camp and started another elegant autumn activity – boiling tea. As the charcoal fire grows stronger, the water in the iron kettle gurgles. The fragrance of tea overflows and intertwines with the surrounding orange fragrance, forming an indescribable harmony and tranquility. Everyone either talks in low voices or quietly tastes tea, enjoying this rare tranquility and warmth. It seems that time has slowed down at this moment.
Handmade DIY, unlimited creativity. In the afternoon, the camp also arranged handmade DIY activities. We used the picked oranges to make handicrafts such as orange lamps and orange paintings. The children even exerted unlimited creativity and turned oranges into various lovely shapes. Laughter filled the entire camp. These handmade works are not only souvenirs of our trip but also the freeze-frame of beautiful memories of autumn.
Tent camping, romance under the stars. As night falls, the camp takes on another charming look. We set up tents and camp under the stars. The bonfire party then kicks off. The firelight reflects on everyone’s faces. Everyone sits in a circle and shares their stories and laughter. When the bonfire gradually dies out and all is silent, we look up at the starry sky and count the stars, enjoying this rare tranquility and freedom.
In the tent, accompanied by the sounds of insects and wind, I slowly drifted into a dream filled with the beauty and sweetness of autumn.Concluding this joyful trip to the Harvest Campsite (Orange Orchard Store), I experienced not only the pleasure of picking fruits, the warmth around the fireplace, and the creativity of DIY crafts, but also felt the charm of nature and the beauty of life. The exclusive picking journey on Changxing Island will become the most unforgettable page in my memory. In the days to come, whenever the autumn wind blows again, this wonderful time will always emerge in my mind, reminding me to cherish every opportunity to be close to nature.
