The Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake scenic area is located at the western end of Bai Causeway and at the southern foot of Solitary Hill. It is a long and narrow lakeside garden. Surrounded by water on three sides, landscapes such as the imperial stele pavilion, water surface platform, four-sided hall, and octagonal pavilion are spread out along the lake. The viewing platform protruding into the water has a wide field of vision. It is a popular place for enjoying the moon by the West Lake. It is also suitable for sipping tea and enjoying the scenery during the day. In the Southern Song Dynasty, there was no fixed location for Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake. The current location of Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake was determined in the 38th year of Emperor Kangxi. At that time, the original Dragon King Hall here was changed into an imperial library building. A stone platform protruding from the lake was built in front of the building, and the imperial plaque inscribed by Emperor Kangxi with ‘Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake’ was hung. There are several cherry blossom trees near the scenic spot. Every March, the cherry blossoms on the trees are in full bloom, which is also one of the beautiful sceneries of the West Lake. Open all year round and open all day.
