Ba Gongshan, a historically and culturally renowned mountain with beautiful scenery, spans an area of 108 square kilometers. The scenic area is home to over 40 peaks with lush pine forests, rugged terrain, and a rich historical and cultural heritage. Over 1600 years ago, the famous Battle of Fei River, where a smaller force defeated a larger one, took place here, leaving behind the timeless idiom ‘wind sounds and crane cries, every bush and tree seems to be an enemy soldier’. More than 2000 years ago, Prince Liu An of Huainan gathered scholars and discussed philosophical and moral issues, compiling the famous work ‘Huainanzi’, which comprehensively recorded the 24 solar terms and invented the timeless delicacy tofu. The ‘Huainan Bug’ fossil, discovered here, is one of the earliest known fossils in the world and is hailed by the international geological community as the source of life on the ‘Blue Planet’. Ba Gongshan has attracted many literati since ancient times, including Liu An, Li Bai, Su Shi, Ouyang Xiu, Liu Yuxi, Wu Jun, and Wei Yingwu, who have all left behind many famous works. Adhering to the principles of ‘scientific planning, strict protection, reasonable development, and sustainable use’, Ba Gongshan Scenic Area insists on the development strategy of ‘tourism-based, industry-strong, and culture-prosperous’, striving to create a ‘cultural mountain, civilized mountain, ecological mountain, and mountain of life’. It has invested heavily in the protective development of attractions such as Ba Gongshan Stone Forest, Wangqing Valley, Han Huainan King’s Palace, Ascension Terrace, and Baita Temple, as well as the geological museum showcasing the distinctive geological features of Ba Gongshan National Geopark. The newly built Huainanzi Cultural Park includes ‘Harmony Valley’, which displays traditional Han culture, and ’24 Solar Terms Garden’, which showcases the world’s intangible cultural heritage. The Idiom Story Park interprets the essence of ‘Huainanzi’ with vivid sculptural groups. Ba Gongshan Scenic Area is conveniently accessible, with basic tourist infrastructure in place, and has received three brands: National Geopark, National Forest Park, and National AAAA-level Tourist Area.
