Bai Causeway, originally known as Bai Sha Causeway, stretches from Duanqiao at one end to Pinghu Qiuyue and Gushan at the other, with a flat asphalt road in between. Lined with orderly willows and peach trees on both sides, visitors are greeted with the beautiful scenery of West Lake, making it an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll. The famous line by Bai Juyi, ‘Love for the lake eastward is not enough, under the green willows, Bai Sha Causeway,’ describes this very place. The best time to visit and main attractions typically start from Duanqiao on Beishan Road, strolling and shopping along the way, passing Jin Dai Bridge to reach Pinghu Qiuyue, and from there, one can continue to visit attractions such as the Xiling Seal Society and Zhejiang Museum (Gushan Pavilion) by ascending Gushan. Visiting Bai Causeway is suitable for all seasons, but to appreciate the classic ‘one willow tree, one peach tree’ scenery, one should visit in March or April during spring. It is also recommended to view the panoramic view of Bai Causeway from the opposite Beishan Road, where the peach blossoms and willow greens create a picturesque scene that is perfect for photographs. For visiting Bai Causeway, walking is the main mode of exploration, and bicycles can be rented for cycling. Motor vehicles are prohibited. Bai Causeway is not as long as Su Causeway, with a total length of about 1 kilometer, which is easily manageable for most people. Cycling along Bai Causeway is also a pleasant experience, and bicycles can be rented from public rental points, hotels, or roadside rental shops. However, during holidays when there are many tourists, cycling is not recommended as one might have to constantly avoid crowds. During peak seasons, this place is often crowded, so if possible, consider visiting outside of the peak tourist times. Due to the low-growing willow and peach trees on the causeway, the shade provided in summer is not very dense, so it is not advisable to walk on Bai Causeway under the scorching sun. It is best to stroll leisurely on the causeway in the early morning, late afternoon, especially before dinner when the sky is about to darken but not yet dark, and take a rest on the benches by the lake. You will find that this is a rare quiet moment of the day on Bai Causeway. Opening hours are all day, every day.
