The monument for the会师 of the Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army at Shizikou, Baiju is located in the northeast of Shizikou Bridge in Baiju Town, Dafeng City, Yancheng. It was completed in June 1986. In July 1940, the New Fourth Army was ordered to cross the Yangtze River to open up a base for anti-Japanese resistance in northern Jiangsu. After the decisive victory in the battle against Han Deqin’s diehards at Huangqiao, they marched north. Huang Kecheng, commander of the Fifth Column of the Eighth Route Army, led his troops to march south from the Huaihai area. On October 10 of that year, the two armies successfully joined forces at Shizikou, Baiju, and established the Central China base for anti-Japanese resistance. In 1985, the people’s government of Dafeng County specially erected this monument to commemorate. The Baiju memorial hall for the会师 of the Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army is located on the east side of the Shi Nai’an Memorial Hall in Baiju Town. It was built in 2007 and completed in 2008 with an investment of 5 million yuan and a building area of 3,000 square meters. It is equipped with exhibition halls, audio-visual education halls, historical data halls, reception rooms, etc., with complete functional facilities. The monument for the会师 of the Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army at Shizikou, Baiju covers an area of 1,600 square meters. The monument body is a reinforced concrete building, 22.6 meters high, shaped like a double-edged sword straight into the sky. The top relief is a sickle and axe, symbolizing that the Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army are two peasant-worker anti-Japanese armed forces under the leadership of the Communist Party of China. The front of the monument faces west. The base of the monument is square with two layers, and the lower layer is slightly larger. With an area of 400 square meters, on the east side, there is an inscription. The content is: In July 1940, the New Fourth Army was ordered to cross the Yangtze River to open up northern Jiangsu. After achieving victory in the decisive battle at Huangqiao, it continued to march north. At the same time, Huang Kecheng’s troops of the Eighth Route Army marched south from the Huaihai area. On October 10, 1940, a part of the New Fourth Army and the Eighth Route Army successfully joined forces at Shizikou, Baiju. After the Southern Anhui Incident, the New Fourth Army rebuilt its headquarters in Yancheng. It persisted in the anti-Japanese war in the rear of central China, consolidated and developed the Central China base for anti-Japanese resistance, and made immortal contributions to the liberation cause of the Chinese nation and the victory of the anti-fascist struggle in the East. To continue the great cause of our predecessors and create a grand blueprint for future generations, this monument is specially erected for commemoration.
