Baima Jian Longchi Scenic Area is located to the north of Tianping Mountain in Suzhou. It is said to be the place where King Wu of Wu raised horses and King Goujian of Yue practiced his resolve during the Spring and Autumn period. Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty visited this place during his southern tour. The scenic area contains historical relics such as the Yǐnmǎ Pool and the Qianlong Imperial Stele inscribed with ‘Mingjing Yang Yungen’.
For the locals, this place is an excellent spot for spring outings and leisure activities. Barbecues and boating are available at the foot of the mountain, and there is a children’s playground. The mountain is not high, and the trails are shaded by green trees, providing a pleasant environment. The entire circuit is not tiring at all and is suitable for family outings of all ages.
The entrance to the scenic area is at the north end. After entering, one first encounters the Xinyuan Tower, said to be where Xi Shi recuperated, with a children’s playground nearby. Further ahead is the place where King Wu of Wu raised horses and King Goujian of Yue practiced his resolve. Continuing along the short Qianlong Imperial Path, the spring water at the Xixin Spring is very clean.
Longchi, also known as Shengtian Reservoir, is located at the southern end of the scenic area. The lake water is clear, and one can walk around the lake via the wooden walkway; or sit by the lake to enjoy tea, which offers a refreshing feeling even in summer. One can also pay to take a bamboo raft to appreciate the beautiful scenery. As for the peach blossom jellyfish in Longchi, they are generally not visible to tourists, and even during the best viewing time when peach blossoms are in full bloom in spring, the probability of seeing the jellyfish is only slightly higher.
Visitors who wish to climb the mountain can continue from Longchi towards the mountain. It is recommended to bring your own cooking utensils and food for the barbecue at the foot of the mountain, as one can traverse from Baimaqian Longchi Scenic Area to Lingyan Mountain, where fully equipped hiking teams are often seen. Hiking requires some outdoor experience, and safety should always be a priority!
