Baitanghe Provincial Wetland Protection Park in Suining, Jiangsu, was established in 2009 and is located in the northwest of Suining County, covering an administrative area of 16.5 square kilometers. The park is home to four administrative natural villages, the ‘4-star rural tourism site’ – Ying’s Wine Manor, and the provincial wetland protection area – Baitanghe Wetland Park. Inside the wine manor, there are built areas for grape viewing, self-experience, and wine culture display, offering services such as sightseeing, picking, appreciation, catering, and entertainment. The more than 2000 acres of grape planting area also serve as a demonstration area for efficient and large-scale agriculture.

Baitanghe Provincial Wetland Park was approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Forestry Bureau in 2009 with a planned construction area of 3.8 square kilometers, and the first phase is currently under construction covering 2.6 square kilometers. The park is extensively planted with various types of trees, shrubs, ground covers, and aquatic plants, suitable for embellishing landscape features, structures, and buildings. It is planned to build conservation areas for wetlands, agricultural experience areas, science education areas, and Buddhist cultural areas. Originally, this area was very low-lying but rich in water resources. Through corresponding organization and collection, the water system in the area has become more systematic and dynamic. The water surfaces, water systems, and tidal flats display the wetlands with a more rustic charm. Relying on this unique natural form, the park is enhanced with the construction of agricultural research experience centers, power science museums, and Suiyue Zen Temple, among other supporting facilities, to improve the wetland functions. This creates a unique Baitanghe Wetland that integrates the protection of animals and plants, agricultural experience, ecological therapy, sightseeing and leisure, science education, and Buddhist culture, making it a true natural, agricultural, and cultural wetland.

According to the urban construction concept of ‘building a medium-sized commercial city and creating a northern ecological corridor’ implemented by the county committee and the county government, the wetland protection area will be expanded based on this, and the area along Baitanghe and Qing’an Main Canal will be expanded to Qing’an Lake as a protected area. Following the principles of ‘ecological nature as the theme’ and ‘protection and restoration as the concept’, a large-scale wetland protection area will be constructed to highlight the significant value of wetlands in environmental protection, agricultural culture, science education, and economic development. The park is open all year round from 08:30 to 17:30, with specific business status subject to the day’s opening conditions.
