Nestled deep within the towering mountains, the Baizhang Waterfall is accessible only after a boat ride across Moon Lake. The Baizhang Canyon stretches approximately 1500 meters, featuring steep cliffs, towering peaks, clear streams, and cascading waterfalls. In addition to the main Baizhang Waterfall, the canyon is home to over 20 scenic spots, including the Bead-Playing Waterfall, Mandarin Duck Waterfall, Five-Tier Spring, Swallow-Tail Waterfall, Single-Line Waterfall, Carefree Waterfall, Nine-Dragon Pool, and Ji Gong Pond. Known as the ‘First Waterfall Group in Jiangnan’, this location has been a popular backdrop for numerous Chinese period dramas. The Baizhang Waterfall dramatically emerges from a 300-meter-wide reddish cliff at Wangyuan, plunging over 60 meters with a thunderous roar, evoking the might of thousands of charging horses and the spectacle of the Milky Way falling into a valley. The Ming Dynasty historian Zhang Dai praised it as: ‘The Milky Way falls from the sky, swaying into mist and clouds, a myriad of pearls and jade are sprayed, a hundred zhang of hanging white silk.’ There are two routes to admire the Baizhang Waterfall: one starting from Wangyuan and moving downwards, and the other beginning in Shihua, moving upwards, each offering unique experiences.
