Ban Yuan, also known as Lu’s Ban Yuan. It covers an area of 1,130 square meters and is located at No. 60, Baita East Road. Built by Lu Jiemei, a circuit intendant from Anhui Province during the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty. It is named ‘Ban Yuan’. Also, because it is located to the north of Shi’s Ban Yuan in Cangmi Lane, it is commonly known as ‘North Ban Yuan’. In 1982, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Suzhou City.
In 1992, it was opened to the public. The garden is in the east of the residence, with a pool in the center, surrounded by a boat hall, waterside pavilion, winding corridor and half pavilion. Most of the buildings feature the word ‘half’. The two-and-a-half-story double-eaved pavilion in the northeast of the garden is unique in Suzhou gardens. There are plants such as white-bark pine, boxwood and wisteria in the garden. Opening hours: from January 1st to December 31st, open from 10:00 to 22:00.Ban Yuan
