Banger Mansion is located on Xiatang Street, once the residence of the modern political commentator Feng Guifen. The mansion faces north and is oriented towards Xujiang River, featuring a typical layout of a southern-facing residence with a garden at the back, embodying the architectural style of early Qing Dynasty Jiangnan residences. Feng Guifen, who was the second-ranked scholar in the imperial examination of the 20th year of the Daoguang Emperor (1840), is locally referred to as the ‘Banger Mansion’. The mansion, covering nearly ten acres, is structured with a residence in the front and a garden at the back, showcasing the typical Qing Dynasty garden architectural style. ‘Jiangnan San Diao’ (brick carving, wood carving, stone carving) are the main features of the mansion. The garden section centers around a pond, with pavilions, verandas, corridors, arbors, bridges, and yellow stone rockeries scattered throughout, creating a picturesque and poetic scene. Opening hours are from 08:30 to 17:00 all year round.
