The Bank Museum is one of the fifth batch of outstanding historical buildings in Shanghai and also the former site of the Shanghai Bar Association. The museum spans four floors, each showcasing the financial development of different periods, interspersed with projections and related segments to simulate and restore the original topography and prosperity of the Bund in old Shanghai’s financial district.
The first floor primarily features exhibitions of bank-related art pieces, while the second, third, and fourth floors focus on the rise and development of foreign and Chinese financial institutions, the national financial system, and the financial system of new China, respectively. The museum houses a historical hall, a coin hall, and an exhibition hall, collecting tens of thousands of items, including historically valuable documents such as pawnshop passbooks, account books, and drafts, as well as bank checks from various periods, and treasures like those from the Warring States period to the Yuan Dynasty’s paper money. In addition, the museum offers scenes such as ‘Late Qing Dynasty and Early Republic of China Pawnshops’ and ‘Silver Dollar Exchange’ for visitors to experience. Visitors will also feel the sensory experience brought by modern technological means within the museum, such as light control and sound control devices that help vividly display the vicissitudes of China’s financial history over the decades. Opening hours: Open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 09:30 to 16:30 all year round; closed on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday all year round; closed all day on National Day.Must Read
