Beigu Pavilion, originally constructed during the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty, is also known as Lingyun Pavilion, Motian Pavilion, and the Number One Pavilion in the World. In the classical novel ‘Romance of the Three Kingdoms’, Sun Shangxiang, upon hearing the tragic news of her husband Liu Bei’s death in Baidi City, held a memorial service in the pavilion and then committed suicide by jumping into the river, hence the name ‘Jijiang Pavilion’. Many people have come here to reminisce and express their emotions, leaving behind numerous immortal poems. Among them, the two poems by the Southern Song Dynasty’s patriotic poet Xin Qiji, praising Beigu Pavilion, are widely celebrated by later generations. One is ‘Nanxiangzi·Climbing Beigu Pavilion in Jingkou with Thoughts’, and the other is ‘Yongyuele·Remembering the Past at Beigu Pavilion in Jingkou’. The pavilion is open to visitors all year round from 08:00 to 17:00.
