Beihu Lake on Chongming Island is located on the north side of the central part of Chongming. It is about 12 kilometers long from east to west and about 0.5 – 1 kilometer wide from north to south. The water area of Beihu Lake is nearly 12,000 mu, roughly equivalent to two West Lakes. It is a super-large artificial lake and the second largest lake in Shanghai. It is also the largest semi-saline lake in East China. The predecessor of Beihu Lake is a part of the Yangtze River. It is a long and narrow channel between Chongming Island and Xinlongsha. It became a lake in 2002. The opening hours are subject to the specific business status on the day.
