A marvel in the history of world engineering, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, as it flows through the section of Wuxi, has left behind numerous historical relics. Along the canal, you will find a variety of historical sites such as the Linquan Temple, rice market warehouses, ancient embankments, the shadow of the Nanchan Pagoda, the charm of ancient bridges, and old streets with traditional residences, forming a historical gallery of a famous Jiangnan city. Nowadays, you can travel by boat along the canal.
Wu Bridge: From Wu Bridge along the canal to the old Sanli Bridge, this section is known as Wu Bridge East Road. This bridge was built by Wu Zi Jing, who was born in the 13th year of the Tongzhi Emperor’s reign (1874), with his own silver. Standing on Wu Bridge, you can look up to the Xi Mountain and Hui Mountain, and look down to the Huangbu dock.
