The Birdwatching Garden is predominantly inhabited by herons, with a significant number of cattle egrets, pond herons, grey herons, and white herons. Recently, rare species such as the great bustard, white stork, and Chinese reed parrot have also been spotted. During the peak of avian habitation, the number of birds can reach hundreds of thousands, creating a spectacular scene. The garden has been designated by Jiangsu Province as an educational base for youth to love and protect birds.
Inside the Hongze Lake Wetland Forest Park Birdwatching Garden, historical sites such as the Han Dynasty roads, tombs, and Ming Dynasty roads are now open to visitors. Along the Han Dynasty roads, there are Eastern Han civil official figurines, military figurines, female figurines, Eastern Han White Tiger divine pillars, Azure Dragon divine pillars, and stone carvings from the Han Dynasty tombs; alongside the Ming Dynasty roads, there are white marble door brackets, white marble horse troughs, green crystal square ding tripods, and white marble round ding stone carvings.
