Caishi Jetty is one of the three famous jetty landscapes along the Yangtze River, alongside Nanjing’s Yanzi Jetty and Yueyang’s Chengling Jetty. It is located approximately 5 kilometers southwest of Ma’anshan city, with the 131-meter-high Cuiluo Mountain reaching into the Yangtze River to the west, and the crescent-shaped Suoxi River encircling the east side of the mountain. Caishi Jetty is renowned for its association with the poet Li Bai, who is said to have drowned here while attempting to catch the moon in the river after becoming intoxicated.
Visitors, while tracing the footsteps of the poetic immortal, can also enjoy the beautiful garden landscapes and the majestic waters of the Yangtze River. The entrance to the scenic area is on the northeast side, crossing the Suoxi Bridge to enter. There are many cultural small attractions at the entrance, and since a thorough tour of the area requires a considerable amount of time, it is recommended to head directly to the important attraction in the south, Taibai Tower, and visit these small attractions on the way back. Taibai Tower, built in memory of Li Bai, is currently the one rebuilt in the third year of the Guangxu period (1877). It features a three-story pavilion at the front and a memorial hall at the back, with corridors connecting the sides. Adjacent to Taibai Tower, the Li Bai Memorial Hall displays collections of poetry, calligraphy, and other cultural relics related to Li Bai. To the northeast of Taibai Tower, the Zhe Xian Garden, styled in the classic Jiangnan garden fashion, offers a place for visitors to rest in pavilions and towers after a long walk. To ascend Cuiluo Mountain, one can take the cable car from the Cuiluo Pavilion to the west of Taibai Tower, directly to the San Tai Pavilion at the mountaintop, costing 30 yuan one way. Since it only takes about 30 minutes to climb to the summit, taking the cable car is not highly recommended. You can first visit the ancient plank road along the river, which leads to the north slope of Cuiluo Mountain, allowing for a one-way journey without the need to retrace steps. Standing on the fifth floor of San Tai Pavilion, one can overlook the Yangtze River and the farmlands to the west, and see Xiao Jiuhua Mountain to the north. The sunset over the Yangtze River at dusk is especially magnificent. When descending from the south slope, do not miss Li Bai’s tomb and Guangji Temple. The Three Kingdoms period Chi Wu Well in front of the temple is an ancient relic of Caishi Jetty. The ancient plank road is suspended on the cliff of Cuiluo Mountain, with the surging Yangtze River beneath, giving a sense of thrill. While strolling along the path, one can see the legendary large footprints left by the general Chang Yuchun during his attack; the Lianbi Terrace (Li Bai’s Moon-catching Terrace); and the large natural cave of Caishi Jetty, Sanyuan Cave (Sanguan Cave). After visiting all the important attractions, not far from the entrance, there is the Lin Sanzhi Art Museum displaying calligraphy, and the Yan Garden displaying ancient inkstones and paintings, among other small attractions to visit. Leaving the scenic area and following the rural path along the Suoxi River to the south, one can walk all the way to the Chenjia Wei Ferry East Crossing. From there, one can enjoy a different view of Caishi Jetty and San Tai Pavilion. Locals often treat Caishi Jetty as a large park for leisure, with plum and apricot blossoms blooming in spring, attracting students and families for spring outings.
