In 1415 AD, during the 13th year of the Yongle era of the Ming Dynasty, Chen Xuan, then the director of the imperial transport, excavated an extraordinary canal along the ancient path of the Beisong Dynasty’s Shahe River. This is the world-renowned Qingjiangpu Canal. The opening of Qingjiangpu was of great significance for the smooth transportation along the entire canal, the establishment of Huai’an’s status as a central city during the Ming and Qing dynasties, and thus earned Huai’an the title of ‘Capital of the Canals’. Open all year round from 09:00 to 17:00. Amenities include luggage storage, guided tours via public account’s built-in audio explanations, and umbrella rental. Address: Visitor Center.
