Canal Park in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province is located at the intersection of the ancient canal and the new canal. It covers an area of about 160,000 square meters, of which the green area accounts for about 60%. It is currently a large cultural theme park in the urban area. Canal Park is adjacent to Huishan Mountain in the west and surrounded by water on three sides. The park site was originally the concentration area of Wuxi rice market and grain and oil transportation, storage and processing industry after the founding of New China. Now, combined with the protection of industrial heritage in the 20th century, the park will become a comprehensive open large-scale urban garden integrating rice market culture, canal culture, sports culture, entertainment culture, ecological greening, tourism and leisure. Canal Park has many scenic spots: a synchronous music water landscape, and the fountain can ‘dance’ with the music rhythm; two cultural relics buildings under protection and restoration are the Jiufeng Flour Mill built in 1910 and the Grain Storage Guild in the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty; three groups of artistic stone carvings are used to show Wuxi historical events and the context of Canal Park, namely the relief long scroll ‘Canal Wuxi Chronicle’, ancient line engravings and the relief ‘Sing for the Motherland’. The 218-meter-long ‘Canal Wuxi Chronicle’ is the most eye-catching. The long scroll is carved from white marble; four characteristic exhibition halls include the He Zhenliang and Olympic Exhibition Hall in the sports category, the calligraphy and painting hall in the art category, the folk music hall in the music category, and the ancient canal model exhibition hall in the architecture category. Canal Park also has both water tourism and land tourism functions. The park includes two cruise ship docks (the new canal shipping dock and the ancient canal dock) that take into account water tourism and leisure on the new canal and the ancient canal; two hydrophilic walking routes for convenient walking and sightseeing. Citizens and tourists can walk along the river or around the park; two characteristic sports squares can meet the activities of citizens of different age groups; two landscape green spaces, a large lawn with an area of about 5,000 square meters and a forest hillock with an area of 8,000 square meters; two guild halls for indoor activities are mainly for people who pursue static leisure. Open all year round, open all day.
