Cao Cao’s Underground Passage is located under the main streets of the old city of Bozhou. Centered on Dayoushou, it extends in all directions and leads to the outside of the city respectively. The entire tunnel is intertwined vertically and horizontally. The layout is mysterious and diverse. It is distributed in three dimensions with a complex structure. It has a magnificent scale and a huge project.
With a length of more than 4,000 meters, it is an underground military tunnel discovered relatively early in history and on a large scale. It far exceeds the value of a complete ancient city preserved on the ground and is known as the ‘Underground Great Wall’. On July 17, 2001, it was listed as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. Unearthed from the passage are cultural relics of various dynasties such as the Han, Tang, and Song dynasties, including projectiles, iron knives, iron lamps, arrowheads, Go pieces, bronze mirrors, pottery, porcelain, and inkstones.
It is of great significance for researching ancient Chinese military architecture, military tactics, and Cao Cao’s military thought.
