Caowang Zen Temple was first built in the 13th year of Chunxi in the Southern Song Dynasty (1186). It was originally named Caowang Shrine and also known as Caowang Temple. It is named after worshipping and offering sacrifices to Cao Zhi, the fourth son of Cao Cao of the State of Wei in the Three Kingdoms period. The town where it is located is also named ‘Caowang Town’ because of the temple. After several rises and falls, it was relocated and rebuilt in March 1999, covering an area of 7.7 mu. Inside the temple are Yuantong Treasure Hall, Mahavira Hall, Manjusri Pavilion, Samantabhadra Pavilion, Bell and Drum Tower, Qielan Hall, Patriarch Hall, etc., as well as affiliated facilities such as dining hall and dormitory. The entire architectural complex adopts the Ming and Qing styles. Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:00 to 15:30; on New Year’s Eve, open from 07:00 to 00:00.
