The site of the Caoyun Governor’s Mansion is located in the city center of Huai’an District, Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province. It was the official building complex of the Caoyun Governor who managed the national grain transport affairs during the Ming and Qing dynasties. The complex is grand in scale, well-preserved, and meticulously laid out. In August 2002, during the old city renovation, the site was excavated and discovered in Huai’an District, Huai’an City. Additionally, a cultural layer from the Song and Yuan dynasties was found three meters beneath the site. The site has been listed as a provincial cultural heritage protection unit in Jiangsu Province. It is worth mentioning that there is a pair of white alum stone lions in front of the yamen, which are extremely rare and spotless. They are said to be one of the two pairs of highly artistic value stone lions that were tributes from Persia (now Iran) during the Yuan Dynasty. One pair was sent to the capital, while the other was kept in Huai’an by the imperial uncle. Unfortunately, these stone lions were smashed into fragments during the Cultural Revolution as part of the ‘Four Olds’. The opening hours and specific business status are subject to the daily opening conditions.
