Established in 1976, the Changxing County Museum began construction on its new building in 2016 and opened to the public in 2019. The new museum is located at Taihukou on Central Avenue, with a construction area of 31,000 square meters.
The museum now houses over 10,000 cultural relics, including prehistoric stone tools, Majiabang culture pottery, Shang and Zhou bronzes, Spring and Autumn Warring States weapons, Han Dynasty ironware, and Song Dynasty bronze mirrors and porcelain, all of which are renowned treasures. The museum is composed of outdoor ancient Pengcheng site, Taihu ancient Lou port, and indoor Changxing History Hall, Taihu Humanities Hall, Taihu Nature Hall, and Temporary Exhibition Hall, narrating the story of Taihu from ancient times to modernity in terms of nature, history, folklore, and culture. It is a model of cultural and tourism integration that combines Taihu themes with county culture in China.
