Changyu City, nestled in the western part of Changping District, boasts a strategic location with its unique geographical features. Surrounded by mountains on three sides—east, west, and south—and adjacent to Diaowo Valley in the south, the city derives its name from its location within the Changyu Canyon, historically known as Changyu Pass.

The origins of Changyu City date back to the Ming Dynasty when it was first established as a village. During the Zhengde period, a fortified city was constructed, which later evolved into the village we know today. The city you see now is built on the foundation of that original city, with the village taking its name from the historic city.

Strategically positioned, Changyu City is adjacent to the Great Wall to the north, Zhenbian City to the south, and Baiyang City to the east. It served as a crucial defensive pass for Beijing, the capital of the Ming Dynasty.
