South Street is located in the core area of Changzhou’s central business district. It is a centuries-old street that has experienced several rises and falls. The business vein of South Street has a long history. According to the Kangxi Annals of Changzhou Prefecture in the Qing Dynasty, South Street was called Dajie Street since the Ming and Qing Dynasties. South Street was renovated again in March 2003 and grandly opened on January 29, 2005. It was officially named South Street Commercial Pedestrian Street. The brand-new South Street Commercial Pedestrian Street starts from Gongyuan Road in the east, reaches South Street in the west, extends from Qingguo Lane in the south, and borders Yanling West Road in the north. It is about 600 meters in the north-south direction and about 120 meters in the east-west direction. The total construction area is 240,000 square meters, of which the commercial area is 120,000 square meters, the business office area is 35,000 square meters, the residential area is 45,000 square meters, and the underground parking lot area is 40,000 square meters. It can park 600 motor vehicles at the same time. There are 30 escalators and 35 vertical elevators set up in the block. South Street Commercial Pedestrian Street is composed of an ‘S’-shaped pedestrian central trunk road, two composite main streets on the upper and lower levels, and three commercial plots. The first and second floors are boutique shops, the third floor is a food street with local characteristics, and the underground floor is a large shopping mall with an area of 20,000 square meters. There are currently more than 820 merchants of all sizes on the pedestrian street. The main business items include: brand clothing, jewelry, sportswear, famous bags and shoes, fashion accessories, characteristic catering, bars and karaoke halls, beauty salons.
