Changzhou Museum, situated on the west side of Citizen Square, boasts a symmetrical layout with the Changzhou Grand Theatre on the east side. The museum is not only a repository of exquisite ancient cultural relics, calligraphy, and paintings but also houses a children’s natural history museum, making it an ideal destination for family outings. The museum’s structure comprises one underground floor and four above-ground floors, with the basement and fourth floor designated as storage and office spaces. The first to third floors are dedicated to exhibitions, featuring two permanent and two special exhibitions, in addition to temporary and special displays.
On the first floor, you will find the Xie Zhiliu Art Museum, which hosts a special exhibition titled ‘Xie Zhiliu Art Exhibition’, showcasing the calligraphic and painting works of contemporary artist Xie Zhiliu. The second floor is dedicated to the exhibition hall of Changzhou’s history and culture, presenting a basic exhibition named ‘Dragon Soaring in Zhongwu – Changzhou History and Culture Exhibition’. The cultural relics are arranged chronologically, featuring jade wares from the Liangzhu Culture period, primitive celadon wares from the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, lacquer wares and porcelains from the Song and Yuan dynasties, and calligraphy and paintings from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
The third floor is part of the children’s natural history museum, featuring a basic exhibition called ‘Magical Nature, Beautiful Homeland – Natural Resources Exhibition’. This exhibition includes a wide range of specimens, such as various wild animals, insects, and marine fishes, catering to the curiosity and interests of children in animal and natural science knowledge.On the third floor, there is a special exhibition titled “Exhibition of Mahogany Furniture Donated by Mr. Liu Guojun.” This exhibition is arranged in the styles of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The halls, study rooms, and bedrooms feature mahogany furniture from the late Qing Dynasty to modern times, all adorned with beautiful patterns.
Adjacent to the Changzhou Museum is the Changzhou Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, which displays the history of Changzhou’s urban construction and its achievements since the reform and opening up. This hall can be visited in conjunction with the museum.
The museum’s opening hours are as follows:
– From January 1st to September 30th, it is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and closed all day on Monday.
– From October 8th to December 31st, the same schedule applies, with the museum open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and closed all day on Monday.
– During New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Tomb Sweeping Day, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival, the museum is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
– From October 1st to October 3rd, the museum is open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
– From October 4th to October 7th, the museum is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Service facilities include museum interpretation. On Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays, four free interpretation services are provided for the audience at 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, 2:00 PM, and 3:00 PM. There is no permanent exhibition. For groups of 1 to 10 people, Chinese interpretation costs 50 yuan per session and English interpretation costs 100 yuan per session, each lasting approximately 60 minutes. The maximum number of people per session is 30. For groups of 11 to 30 people, Chinese interpretation costs 100 yuan per session and English interpretation costs 200 yuan per session.Special Exhibition Pricing:
– For groups of 1-10 people, the cost is 50 yuan per time, with each session lasting approximately 30 minutes.
– For groups of 11-30 people, the cost is 100 yuan per time.
