Jiang’s Former Residence is located within the Xikou Scenic Area, with a focus on architectural and cultural attractions, filled with traces of Chiang Kai-shek and his family’s life. If you are interested in modern history and the life of Chiang Kai-shek, this place is a must-visit.
The main attractions of the scenic area are arranged along the Wuling Road pedestrian street by the Shangxi River, which can be toured on foot in half a day. Starting from Wuling Gate, the nearby Wuling School, the Small Western-style House, and the Wenchang Pavilion are particularly worth seeing. Among them, the Wenchang Pavilion, built on Wuling Mountain, was once the villa of Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling, with paintings by Soong Mei-ling hanging inside.

Near the Jingtang Road, the Fenghao House is the place where Chiang Kai-shek married Mao Fumei and Chiang Ching-kuo married Chiang Fangliang, with a courtyard in the middle where Soong Mei-ling planted honeysuckle. To the west of Fenghao House, the Yutai Salt Shop is the birthplace of Chiang Kai-shek, with the words ‘Qinglu’ inscribed on the door lintel.

The tomb of Chiang’s mother is located at the junction of the Jiang’s Former Residence Scenic Area and the Xuedou Mountain Scenic Area, which is included in the ticket for Jiang’s Former Residence. The cemetery consists of Jiang’s mother’s tomb path and the Azalea Valley, with beautiful scenery. There is a tomb house at the entrance, which was once the residence of Chiang Kai-shek, with his calligraphy couplets, and now serves as a small exhibition room. The carvings on Jiang’s mother’s tomb path are exquisite, and the view from Azalea Valley is broad, with lush forests and lawns that are refreshing to the heart.
