The China Maritime Museum is located on the west bank of Dishui Lake in Lingang New City, Pudong, in the southeast corner of Shanghai. It is currently a maritime-themed museum with rich exhibition contents in China. When visiting the Maritime Museum, you can learn about the history of Chinese shipbuilding and the evolution process of navigation technology through various ship models, pictures and texts, and physical displays of navigation instruments and equipment. You can also personally operate simulated navigation, or board a replicated Ming Dynasty Fuchuan ship to understand the shipbuilding craftsmanship of the ancients. You can also watch a realistic film in the 4D dynamic cinema. It is very suitable for teenagers to learn and gain knowledge. The museum has three floors, but the exhibition halls are all distributed on the first and second floors. There are exits on both floors, and the entrance is located on the second floor. After entering, you can take the escalator down to the first floor to start visiting. The museum provides free guided tour services. Usually, there is one guided tour in each exhibition hall in the morning and afternoon. It is recommended to follow the guide’s explanation and visit in sequence. You can also learn to tie sailor knots from the guide. After entering the museum, you can pay attention to the reminder sign of the guided tour time or consult the staff. If you miss the free guided tour time, you can rent an audio guide at the service center at the entrance (10 yuan per unit). If you hire a paid guide, it is 50 yuan per hour (in Chinese). The museum is usually open to the public for free on China Maritime Day on July 11. It is recommended to pay attention to the dynamics of the museum’s official website in advance. The first floor has the Maritime History Hall, Ship Hall, Seaman Hall, and special exhibition areas on fishing boats and fishing. Here, you can see pictures, texts and videos about Chinese maritime history, as well as various maritime equipment such as diving suits and underwater robots, as well as domestic and foreign ship models, cabin structures and instrument models. You can also personally experience operating container cranes and driving ships in the simulated operation cabin. In the atrium, there is a replicated Ming Dynasty Fuchuan ship in original proportion, that is, the ‘Daming Treasure Ship’ when Zheng He went to the Western Seas. And it is said that this is an actual ship that can actually sail in the water. You can board the ship for a visit. In addition, there is a restaurant on the first floor that provides Chinese set meals. There are two kinds of set meals, 30 yuan and 40 yuan. The taste is okay. The second floor has the Navigation and Port Hall, Maritime Affairs and Maritime Safety Hall, Military Navigation Hall, and special exhibition areas on maritime sports and leisure. On this floor, you can learn about the construction history of the Chinese navy, ports and maritime rescues, etc. You can also see exhibits such as warship models, naval flags and military uniforms, and actual shipborne artillery. Interestingly, you can enter the simulated submarine command cabin to find out. In addition, there is also a planetarium, 4D cinema and children’s activity center on this floor.
